13 Arrested for DUI as checkpoint strikeforce campaign continues

Dover – Delaware law enforcement officer arrested 13 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs during week eleven of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign (Sept. 11 & 12). Agencies conducting checkpoints included the New Castle County DUI Task Force (Newark), DSP Troop 6 (Christiana), and the Milford, Laurel, and Dover Police Departments. Seaford Police also conducted DUI saturation patrols.

In addition to the 13 DUI arrests, officers issued 9 citations for underage drinking, apprehended 6 wanted individuals, made 2 drug arrests, issued 14 seat belt citations, 4 child restraint citations, and 92 citations for various other traffic violations.

The weekend’s enforcement brings the total number of DUI arrests since the campaign’s July 3rd launch to 204.

Three more sobriety checkpoints are scheduled to occur the weekend of September 18th. The checkpoints are scheduled for:

Friday Sept. 18th – Newark (NcCo DUI Task Force)

Saturday Sept. 19th – Laurel (DSP Troop 5)

Georgetown (Georgetown PD)

Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, and using high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six month long effort running through New Year’s Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
