19 Arrested for DUI in Week 7 of DUI Campaign

Dover – Delaware law enforcement officer arrested 19 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs during week six of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign (August 14th & 15th). Agencies conducting checkpoints included the New Castle County DUI Task Force (Newport), the Dover Police (on Little Creek Rd.) and the Delaware State Police Troop 7 (Rt. 1 Rehoboth Beach).

In addition to the 19 DUI arrests, officers issued 8 citations for underage drinking, apprehended 6 wanted individuals, made 16 drug arrests, 20 felony arrests, seized 1 weapon, issued 10 seat belt citations, and 51 citations for various other traffic violations.

The National Impaired Driving Crackdown begins this weekend and runs through September 7th. Delaware is participating through a combination of awareness and stepped up enforcement efforts. For the kick off weekend (Aug. 21st & 22nd) three sobriety checkpoints and approximately 90 DUI saturation patrols are scheduled to occur. The checkpoints are scheduled for:

Friday August 21st – Newark (NcCo DUI Task Force)

Saturday August 22nd – Newark (DSP Troop 2)

Laurel (Laurel PD)

Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, and using high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six month long effort running through New Year’s Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
