20 Arrested for DUI Over Weekend – Four More Checkpoints and DUI Patrols Planned for Coming Weekend

ULTIMA HORA.- Dover, July 14. More people were arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs during week two of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign than during its inaugural 4th of July holiday weekend. On July 10th and 11th a total of 20 individuals were arrested for DUI, three more than during the holiday weekend. Agencies conducting checkpoints included the New Castle County DUI Task Force (Newport), Delaware State Police Troop 4 (Fenwick Island) and the Georgetown Police Department (East Market Street).

In addition to the checkpoint DUI arrests, officers issued 3 citations for underage drinking violations, apprehended 3 wanted individuals, made 4 drug arrests, 5 felony arrests, recovered one stolen vehicle, issued 8 seat belt citations, 5 child restraint citations, and 52 citations for various other traffic violations.

Four sobriety checkpoints are scheduled to occur on July 17th and 18th and Seaford PD will conduct DUI saturation patrols on the 17th as well. The checkpoints are scheduled for:

Friday July 17th – Wilmington (NcCo DUI Task Force)

Laurel (Laurel PD)

Seaford PD – DUI saturation patrols

Saturday July 18th – Beach area (DSP Troop 7)

Clayton (Clayton PD)

Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, and using high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six month long effort running through New Year’s Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
