2018 Run, White & Blue 5K/1-Mile Walk draws nearly 500 participants

Raised almost $12,000 for scholarships

The fifth annual Run, White & Blue 5K/1-Mile Walk, held at the Owens Campus in Georgetown, was the most successful event yet as nearly 500 runners and walkers braved the heat and humidity to raise almost $12,000 to support scholarships for veterans and first responders.

The event included a free Zumba warm-up by World Gym Millsboro prior to the start of the race, and a huge post-race cookout featuring barbecue chicken cooked by Greenwood Volunteer Fire Co., barbecue brisket with baked beans and potato salad from Mission BBQ, pizza from Pizza King, oysters from JD Shuckers, ice cream from Vanderwende Farm Creamery, beer from NKS Distributors and Mispillion River Brewing, and wine from Sposato Family Vineyards.

In addition, the Delaware State Police helicopter, mounted patrol unit, patrol car, mobile command post, K-9 demonstration, and a seatbelt rollover simulator were all on display. There was also be a smokehouse simulator from the Blades Volunteer Fire Co., a CPR and Stop the Bleed demonstration from Sussex County EMS, and display vehicles and information tables from Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Department of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement, Delaware National Guard, Delaware State Fire School, and the Milton, Georgetown, and Seaford police departments. Fire trucks from Georgetown, Milford, and Greenwood fire companies were displayed at the start/finish line.
