Miss Gonzalez competed at the Youth America Grand Prix competition (YAGP) in 2013 and placed in the Top 12 of the Pre-Competitive Category, for dancers age 11 and under.
She will be performing a solo variation for “Paquita’, a ballet heightened by Spanish motifs and flair. The music which is full of Spanish–themed melodies was composed by Ludwig Minkus.
She will also perform in Dances from “Tin Pan Alley” a glorious celebration of the music of early the 1900’s through the 30’s. The name originally referred to a specific place: West 28th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. Before the invention of the phonograph, music was recorded by numerous pianos in the area, banging out tunes in an almost percusive manner. It was the center of the music industry. Musical styles include ragtime, jazz, charleston, big band and swing. Composers include Scott Joplin, Cole Porter and George Gershwin. It was the most prolific and diverse period in American music. Dances will include “Puttin’ On The Ritz”, “Put A Lid On it”, “Embraceable You”. Some of the music will also include contemporary music influenced by this particular style by artist such as Squirrel Nut Zippers.
Naya will be joined by guest artist, Sergio Alvarez from the Des Moines Ballet, Dance Conservatory alumni Sara Biscardi (2008) and Jasmin Urban (2015), and students of the school’s summer intensive program.
