LEWES – The Delmarva Antique Bottle Club presents the Seventeenth Annual Antique Bottle, Sea Glass and Collectible Show & Sale at Beacon Middle School in Lewes. It will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13.
“This is the first year the bottle show includes sea glass,” Bottle Club Vice President Matt Greig said. “We hope to bring together the different groups of collectors so that we can appreciate each other’s hobbies. I think that we are all interested in the beauty of glass and its relationship to Delmarva.”
Admission is $3. Parking is free. However, admission is free for children aged 12 and younger. Serious collectors can enter as early as 7:30 a.m. for $20.
Dozens of dealers from up and down the east coast will sell bottles, jars, stoneware, sea glass, small table-top antiques, advertising and other related memorabilia and collectibles. Several categories of bottle collecting will be represented, including dairy, beer, sodas, inks, food jars, poisons, figurals, medicines, bitters, and historical flasks. The show includes hourly door prizes, a 50-50 raffle, and bottle displays. The displays are judged on originality, historical significance, and educational value.
The Delmarva Antique Bottle Club in a non-profit organization that aims to promote, foster, and encourage all activities involving the hobbies of antique bottle and sea glass collecting. The club also strives to facilitate the exhibition and promotion of bottle and glass research. The Bottle Club meets at 6:30 p.m. every third Friday of the month from October through June. Visitors are welcome to the meetings, which are held at Beacon Middle School. Every school year, the Bottle Club gives one $1,000 college scholarship to a deserving Delaware high school senior. Money raised at the September show goes toward this scholarship.
