Delaware's high school graduation rate is ranked in the bottom tier in the nation and our achievement gap is growing. Jack Markell and Matt Denn have released many ideas about how they will fix these problems during their campaigns for governor and lieutenant governor. In addition to these policy proposals, they recently held a press conference with Sen. Carper about fostering business-school mentorship programs focused on helping children live up to their full potential and succeed in higher education or a global job market. As a mother of three, I know this is what all parents want for their children.
This initiative was started by Sen. Carper during his years as governor, and I'm pleased the see that Jack and Matt will continue to push for mentorship and make it a priority in their administration. Helping our children succeed is one of the most important investments we can make in our society and in our economy. Jack and Matt's strategy to encourage Delawareans to invest in our children is a great idea, and they have my support.
