In Rep. Nick Manolakos

In Rep. Nick Manolakos’ guest opinion in the July 17 paper, he sounded like he was complaining that state government is too big and that there are too many state employees. I agree. Government needs to get smaller.
But what Manolakos didn’t bother mentioning is that he’s one of the “13,500 education workers” he referred to. Not only that, but he’s one of the ones who makes more than $100,000 a year (about $107,000), as one of four assistant principals at A.I. du Pont High School. When you talk about where you can cut and consolidate government, school administration is one of the first places I’d look. Four assistant principals for one school? That’s got to be what he was talking about when he said we needed to cut more.
Maybe when he talks about Delaware having the second-highest number of government employees per capita in the country, he can suggest which of his fellow assistant principals is expendable to accomplish what he wants and reduce the size of the state’s workforce. Otherwise, he’s just making noise without any real substance.
