Catholic Charities offers its first Naturalization Workshop

May 18, 2010 – (Wilmington, DE) – Catholic Charities Inc. Immigration Program will hold its first Naturalization Workshop on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Catholic Charities Main Office, 2601 W 4th Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.

This is a one-day community event to help Permanent Residents complete the necessary forms to become United States citizens. Volunteer attorneys, BIA-accredited representatives, and trained volunteers will be on-site for consultation. The agency will accept applicants between 8:30 a.m. and noon. Applicants will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost of the workshop is $40, and Catholic Charities will accept cash, a credit card payment, or a money order or personal check made payable to Catholic Charities.

Attendees:

* must be 18 or older

* must be a Permanent Resident for 5 years (3 if based on marriage to a U.S. citizen)

* must have no criminal convictions

* must have a good understanding of English

* can not have been outside the US for more than 6 consecutive months

* must live in the district or state for the last 3 months and have a valid ID

In order to participate, attendees need to bring:

* “Green card”/Legal Permanent Resident card (I-551), which includes your A#

* 2 Photos — passport style (must be recent)

* All passports — current and expired — showing entry and exit dates from the US since you became a legal permanent resident

* Dates/addresses for all places where you have worked and lived in the last five (5) years

* All data (place and date of birth, A#, green card, current address) for your spouse(s) — both current and former. (Please note: if your spouse is a naturalized citizen of the US, please also bring a copy of the naturalization certificate and marriage certificate)

* All data (place and date of birth, A#, green card, current address) for all children — including adult, adopted, and deceased

* A personal check or money order payable to “Department of Homeland Security” at the time you submit your application. The total application fee is $675.

Catholic Charities Immigration program helps individuals and families with immigration and citizenship programs and provides assistance to those who may have experienced family separation and problems in personal, social and economic adjustment as a result of their legal status in the United States.

Catholic Charities also needs volunteers for the event. Potential volunteers do not need knowledge of immigration law; Catholic Charities will provide training.
