Opera Hispánica is a new opera company exclusively dedicated to Spanish-language repertoire, under the direction of Jorge Parodi. The company is based in New York City. They plan to reach out to the world and present Latin-flavored operatic experiences in a collaborative project between the United States and Spain, Colombia and Argentina. This company will also bring us operas by living and recent composers, planning works like María de Buenos Aires by Piazzolla, Ainadamar by Golijov, Frida by R. Xavier Rodríguez, and Goyescas or The Couple in Love by Enrique Granados, which in 1916 was the first Spanish opera presented at the Metropolitan Opera.

Opera Hispánica recently began their new online bilingual series, IG LIVE #YourHOHour, featuring Parodi talking shop with prominent and rising Latino artists. Today we enjoyed his conversation with Columbian soprano Catalina Cuervo telling of her experiences – insightful, emotional, amusing, but always in good spirit.

#YourHOHour appears Mondays at 6:00pm ET on Instagram.
