DOVER, DE – Plans are underway for Delaware’s 76th Annual Old Dover Days Festival, one of the First State’s longest-running events, set this year for the first weekend in May.

Kent County Tourism, producers of the event, are interested in hearing from Dover area organizations and businesses that will be providing, or are interested in providing, activities and events to coincide with the festival. Examples would include musical or theater performances, concerts, pancake breakfasts and other related activities that are open to the public.

“The Dover Symphony Orchestra will be performing “Celebrate Cinco De Mayo,” an Old Dover Days concert, on Sunday, May 3 at the Schwartz Center for the Arts,” said Robin Coventry, Director of Special Events and Public Relations for Kent County Tourism, “and the Harry James Orchestra will perform at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino on Friday evening. These are events that Delawareans and visitors alike would like to know about in planning their Dover Days weekend, so we want organizations to let us know about their activities as soon as possible.”

“If community organizations currently do not have an activity planned but would like to participate in the Old Dover Days event, we have suggestions and ideas to offer,” Ms. Coventry said. “This could include everything from sponsoring children’s activities to having a food vendor booth to raise funds for their organizations,” she added. Last year, more than 150 artisans, craft and food vendors participated in the event, along with dozens of community organizations, which sponsored activities such as the children’s woodpile and chalk murals.

“We are reaching out to the community asking for volunteers to assist us with the longest running event in our Capital City,” said Coventry.
