To combat the mix of snow and ice that will likely fall tonight, DelDOT crews in New Castle County plan to work throughout the night tonight.

“Even though our people will be working all night, drivers need to be alert to the fact there still may be slick spots on the roads overnight and tomorrow morning,” said DelDOT Secretary Shailen Bhatt. “In addition, drivers should never pass a snow plow when it is either applying salt, or if it has its blade down. Doing so can be dangerous for the passing vehicle since it could be hit with salt, snow or ice from our trucks. If drivers give our vehicles the space they need, we can do a better job of clearing the roads and it enhances the safety of our plow operators.”

After spending all day pre-treating the roads with brine, a salt and water mixture, all crews in New Castle county will return at 11:00 p.m., to begin salting. Officials expect that the crews will work through the night applying salt, and perhaps plowing if there is enough snow accumulation.

Kent County

Crews in Kent County also spent the day pre-treating the main roads. There are no plans right now to call back crews tonight, but that could change if the situation warrants it.

Sussex County

Supervisors will spend this evening riding the roads, and monitoring situations, in case crews need to be called in.
