Wilmington, DE – DART Resort Transit service will begin for the season on Thursday, May 22, and proposed changes to fixed route service in Kent and New Castle Counties have been approved to become effective Sunday, June 15, 2014, Chief Executive Officer of Delaware Transit Corporation (DTC) John Sisson announced today.
DART’s Resort Transit Routes 201-208 operate seven days a week from approximately 7 AM to 1 AM, serving Rehoboth Beach and the Boardwalk, Lewes, Long Neck, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, and Ocean City, MD. All buses are air-conditioned, ADA accessible and equipped with bike racks. The seasonal bus service operates through September 14, 2014. The cash fare is $1.50 per trip or $3.15 for a daily pass.
Visitors and residents are encouraged to use DART’s Park & Ride lot located just off of DE Route 1 on Shuttle Road, just north of the entrance to Rehoboth Avenue. The parking rate is $8 per day and up to 4 occupants of the vehicle receive a free daily pass.
DART’s Route 305, Beach Connection, begins service on Friday, May 23, 2014, providing bus service from Wilmington to Rehoboth Beach on Friday nights, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through September 1, 2014. Route 305 stops include Wilmington Train Station, Christiana Mall, Smyrna Rest Stop, Scarborough Park & Ride lot in Dover, Super Walmart in Milford, and the Rehoboth Park & Ride lot. The one-way cash fare is $10.00 from Wilmington and $6.00 from Dover. Riders are encouraged to buy a 4/5 Zone daily pass for $16.80, which can also be used on all the Resort Transit routes, once at the Park & Ride.
On June 15, 2014, changes to DART’s Kent and New Castle County fixed route service will go into effect. In Kent County, Route 107’s Saturday service will have minor routing and time changes. Highlights of the New Castle County changes include: Route 15 will be extended to serve Christiana Mall on its last weekday evening trip from Rodney Square, serving Cavalier Apartments; Route 32 will be extended out Delaware Ave. to turn around at N. Harrison St., providing service to Capital One; Route 65, serving Newark and Elkton, MD, will be discontinued on July 1, 2014. DTC and Cecil County Government remain in negotiations regarding Cecil Transit assuming operation of Route 65. Should negotiations be successful, Cecil Transit will take over the operation sometime after July 1. For additional information, please visit http://www.ceciltransit.com.
