WASHINGTON, D.C. — Debra M. Lawrence, a veteran trial attorney with the

Baltimore office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

(EEOC), has been appointed regional attorney of the agency’s Philadelphia

District, which includes offices in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and

Cleveland, the agency announced today.

“I look forward to the continuance of a dynamic and powerful litigation

program with Debra overseeing the Philadelphia District,” said EEOC General

Counsel P. David Lopez. “She joins a strong and dedicated group of regional

attorneys throughout the country.”

“I feel very honored by General Counsel Lopez’s strong support and I look

forward to continuing the agency’s mission of eradicating discrimination,”

Lawrence said.

Lawrence began her career at the EEOC as a trial attorney, during which she

prosecuted numerous cases under the statutes enforced by the agency,

recovering millions of dollars. She has tried cases to verdict in jury trials

involving age discrimination, sexual harassment, race discrimination and

harassment, gender wage discrimination, religious discrimination and

retaliation. She has lectured, trained and written about the various civil

rights statutes and has trained newer lawyers on trial and discovery

practice. Lawrence was appointed supervisory trial attorney in 2002, and in

December 2008, she became acting regional attorney for the Philadelphia

District.
