“During a discussion about traffic issues raised by a neighboring school, three hours into a board meeting in January of this year with the Odyssey Charter School Board and leadership present, a board member made a comment that was hurtful and insensitive.
These words are not representative of what we stand for at OCS, one of the most inclusive and diverse institutions in Delaware. Words cannot express how profoundly sorry we are for the hurt that statements made by board members caused in our community.
This was a painful lesson and I will hold myself and the OCS Board to a higher standard. The Board is taking, and will continue to take, essential first steps to address accountability and heighten inclusivity awareness. We are in the process of scheduling cultural awareness training for the Board and leadership, and have immediate plans to appoint additional new members representative of our diverse OCS population.
As we continue to move forward and grow, our focus will always be on the success and well-being of our remarkable student body.”
