GEORGETOWN, DE – In America’s competitive job market, employers often look at an applicant’s credit history. Unfortunately, for many job seekers, credit report errors may prevent them from getting hired. To provide local residents with ways to correct errors or repair their credit, the Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council, Inc., (DCRAC) held an open house at the nonprofit’s new office space in Georgetown, Delaware today.

“By law, we have the right to review our credit reports annually. Delawareans should exercise this right and take action when needed – for example, have errors removed or embark on a credit repair journey,” said executive director Rashmi Rangan at DCRAC’s Open House and Credit Report Marathon. Free credit and housing counseling in DCRAC’s Georgetown Office are by appointment only.

Every Monday however, DCRAC will provide free tax counseling for an individual’s back taxes. Rangan explained why the new office with one large room and two private rooms will assist DCRAC’s free tax clinic. “This new space allows us to work with our clients in a more confidential and private space,” said Rangan.

Amidst the music, food and credit report assistance at the open house, Rangan described the evolution of DCRAC’s presence in Georgetown. “DCRAC has been a statewide organization for 25 years. Years ago, we first established our presence in town by renting a desk space, then by sharing an office with a church, and then by renting a smaller space from the Delaware Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. (CLASI).” Rangan continued, “We look at this move as a commitment to Sussex County that we will be more present than before and provide our wide array of services: helping people build a credit score of 723 or above; assisting Delawareans with foreclosure prevention; and advocating on behalf of our taxpayers who are in trouble with the IRS. Please give us a call at (877) 825 – 0750 if you need any help.”

DCRAC’s new Georgetown address is: Georgetown Professional Park, 20127 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947. Phone: (877) 825 – 0750.

About DCRAC: DCRAC is a tax exempt, nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure equitable treatment and equal access to credit and capital for the under-served populations and communities throughout Delaware through advocacy, education, legislation, and outreach.
