Wilmington, DE – On Wednesday, December 7th, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children had some special holiday visitors.

Santa Claus, accompanied by Delaware State Troopers, stopped by to greet children and give them a special holiday gift. This year, the visit also included Mrs. Claus and Rudolph, and many elves, among others.

The police officers were escorted by members of the Child Life staff as they visited each room, asking the children if they’d been good, and offering words of encouragement.

The state police have been visiting duPont Hospital for Children for over 20 years – many Troopers will even rearrange their schedule so they won’t miss this annual tradition. “We have a pretty serious job, so this is a great opportunity to do something fun and inspiring,” explained Sgt. Paul Shavack of the Delaware State Police. “We know it means a lot to the kids, but I also know it means just as much to the Troopers.”

Kept a secret until Santa walked through their door, the kids were thrilled by the surprise visit. Even though they were in a hospital at Christmas time, they were smiling. That’s the best medicine there is.
