Delaware Tech Honors Maria Matos for Hispanic Heritage Month

Wilmington, DE–Delaware Technical Community College’s Stanton and George Campuses are honoring Ms. Maria Matos, president and CEO of the Latin American Community Center, for her commitment to the Hispanic community and culture in Northern Delaware for its 11th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Honoree Celebration.

Maria Matos has been the President and CEO of the Latin American Community Center in Wilmington, Delaware, for the past 27 years. She was previously employed by the Red Clay Consolidated School District and the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scout Council, where she held various management positions.

Ms. Matos studied elementary education at Delaware State University and human services and family counseling at Delaware Technical Community College and The Institute of Family Counseling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Maria earned a nonprofit management certificate from the University of Delaware.

Ms. Matos serves on numerous boards and committees, including Academia Antonia Alonso Charter School Board of Directors, JPMorgan Chase Community Partner Advisory Board, ChristianaCare Board of Advisors, and the United Way of Delaware Partner Agency Council.

Ms. Matos was appointed a member of the Delaware Hispanic Commission by former Governor Jack Markell. She was elected by UnidosUS (formerly known as the National Council of La Raza) to serve as their Northeast Representative to the National Affiliate Council.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Maria has worked on many advocacy committees, including the City of Wilmington COVID-19 Working Group, Equitable Wilmington Advisory Committee, Hispanic Ministers COVID-19 Working Group, and the State of Delaware Pandemic Resurgence Advisory Committee (PRAC).

Ms. Matos is listed in Who’s Who Among Hispanic Americans and Who’s Who Among Professional Americans. She has received numerous awards for her dedication and commitment to the community she serves.
In 2019, Maria was inducted into the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame.Over the past year, Barclays has also provided widespread support during the pandemic to the communities in which the bank operates through its $125 million global COVID-19 Community Aid Package, providing emergency relief to vulnerable communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis.
