Delaware Tech’s Global Understanding Series Offers an International Experience

Georgetown – Each semester, Delaware Technical Community College offers the Global Understanding Series for all Delaware Tech students, staff, faculty, and community to attend.

The series features a variety of programming focusing on increasing cross-cultural understanding, promoting diversity, and understanding of global issues.

These presentations, performances, and workshops provide a personal perspective on a global issue, region, culture, or people.

The events that will occur this fall at the Owens Campus in Georgetown are:

Postcards from Abroad: South Africa – Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Arts & Science Center Theater. Experience South Africa through the eyes of Delaware Tech faculty members as they discuss their learning experiences on the 2014 Professional Development Program to South Africa.

Global Voices: Hispanic Heritage Celebration – Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Arts & Science Center Theater. Join in on celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and listen to guest speaker Carlos Andres Gomez, an award-winning poet, actor, and writer.

Global Skills: Study Abroad Fair – Thursday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students should think outside the classroom and the country. Learn how to travel abroad and find out about upcoming study abroad destinations and scholarship opportunities that can get you there.

Postcards from Abroad: Ireland and Japan – Thursday, Nov. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room of the Student Services Center. Follow along as Delaware Tech students and faculty share experiences and perspectives from their study abroad courses in Ireland and Japan.

International Education Week Photo Contest and Reception – Thursday, Nov. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Arts & Science Center Theater Lobby. Explore the world through photos submitted by Delaware Tech students and staff to celebrate International Education Week. Winners of the photo contest and a free study abroad experience will be announced during the reception.

Delaware Tech students who attend Global Understanding events will be entered into a drawing for a free study abroad trip in 2015. Delaware Tech faculty and staff who attend Global Understanding events will be entered into a drawing for a free spot on the 2015 International Professional Development Program trip.
