Dover, DE – As another winter storm approaches Delaware, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation have spent today preparing and are making plans for their operations overnight and tomorrow morning.
On the primary roads in Sussex County today, DelDOT crews pre-treated the roads with brine, a salt and water mixture. Brine helps to delay, or minimize any accumulation of ice or snow on the roads.
DelDOT Supervisors in Sussex County will report to the DelDOT facilities at 4:00 a.m., and will monitor road conditions, and call in crews early if necessary.
In Kent County, DelDOT officials will decide on overnight staffing after seeing today’s 6:00 p.m. forecast.
In New Castle County, crews will maintain their normal schedule, unless DelDOT’s Transportation Management Center alerts them that conditions have changed.
Once again, the morning commute in areas of Delaware may be slick, due to ice and possibly snow. Motorists are encouraged to give themselves extra time for their morning commute, and drive carefully.
