Dover – A coastal storm system is expected to impact the entire state beginning Friday night lasting into Sunday.

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is advising motorists of the potential for heavy rain and possible flooding across the state. The current forecast from the National Weather Service indicates an inch or more of rain is possible through Sunday night with locally higher amounts likely in Sussex County. A High Wind Warning and Coastal Flood Warning are also in effect for Saturday in Sussex County.

High winds can also bring trees, wires, and other debris onto roads and motorists should slow down and adapt their driving to the conditions, using headlights when windshield wipers are in use, and allowing more time for travel. Motorists should not attempt to drive through high water, and storm related issues impacting roads can be reported to the Transportation Management Center by calling #77, which is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

DelDOT will be monitoring road and travel conditions throughout the storm and providing updates on travel impacts as necessary.
