Wilmington, DE October 2, 2009—Delaware’s Lieutenant Governor Matthew Denn recently visited the Kirkwood Highway Goodwill store to mark the start of a partnership between Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County and the Census Bureau to promote the 2010 census. All 15 of Goodwill’s retail locations throughout Delaware and Delaware County, Pennsylvania and the three Food Closets located in New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties will use merchandise bags printed with the 2010 Census logo. In addition, all 600 Goodwill employees working in retail locations, attended donation centers and the administrative and corporate headquarters will wear buttons promoting the upcoming census effort. Denn said it was vitally important to the state of Delaware that every resident be counted since “it has a direct impact on the amount of funding the state receives from the federal government.“

For 88 years, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County’s mission has been to improve the quality of life for individuals with barriers to employment through vocational services and work opportunities and has been supported by proceeds from retail sales and donations. Last year alone, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County provided over 6,900 services to individuals throughout the region.
