A complaint alleging illegal gambling at a Selbyville restaurant resulted in an arrest this week. After receiving the complaint, the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE) launched an undercover investigation of the Slainte Restaurant and Pub located on Americana Parkway in Selbyville. During the investigation, DATE Agents discovered two electronic gambling machines mounted to a wall available for patron use. The investigation revealed that the gambling machines were only turned on for certain customers. In addition, DATE Agents witnessed wagers being placed on football games with playing cards and a pay out of cash to a patron.
On December 23, 2012, DATE Agents conducted a search of the business seizing bank envelopes of cash containing recent pay-out slips from the gambling machines. Agents also seized two gambling machines, several decks of cards, poker table tops, poker chips, various paper records, and $805 in cash.
The 32-year-old year restaurant manager, Declan S. McNamee of Selbyville, turned himself in and was charged with advanced gambling; possession of a gambling device; concerned interest in keeping a gambling device; and providing a premise for gambling. He was released to his attorney. The investigation is ongoing. Additional arrests are anticipated.
