The Sussex County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization recently held its 25th annual commemorative weekend. On Saturday, January 14 and Monday, January 16, the group held events honoring the life and legacy of the civil rights martyr. This year’s theme was, “In Times of Challenge and Controversy, Faith Triumphs Over Adversity.” Saturday’s proceedings featured a banquet with poignant remarks from congresswoman, Lisa Blunt Rochester and a powerful keynote address by the Reverend Dr. William T. Wallace Sr., pastor of Union United Methodist Church in St. Michaels, Maryland. Monday’s affair included a lively worship service replete with music, dance, poetry and a compelling message from the Reverend Dr. Yvonne Brunson, pastor of John Wesley United Church in Milford, DE.
