Three legislative luminaries will be the guest speakers at the January meeting of the Eastern Sussex Democratic Club. Speaker of the Delaware House Representatives, Pete Schwartzkopf, of the 14th Representative District, in which many Club members reside, will host the meeting. He will be joined by State Senator/Senate Majority Whip Bryan Townsend from the 11th Senatorial District and State Representative/House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst from the 15th Representative District.

The meeting will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 11:30-3 pm at the Atlantic Sands Hotel Ballroom, 3rd Floor, Baltimore Avenue, in Rehoboth Beach. For the $25 cost of the buffet luncheon, attendees will be treated to a panel discussion concerning strategies for getting Sussex County Democrats elected, and the 2019 legislative agenda as it is currently shaping up, including ways in which constituents can get involved in the legislative process at the State level.

Attendees can also join or renew their membership at this meeting. The annual dues are $30, and all membership fees go directly to Democratic Candidates and their campaigns.

The Club members will also elect a new Board, according to outgoing Board Chairwoman Lise Haupt. When asked about her legacy, she summed it up by saying that she has focused on “including as many people as possible in the Club’s developmental process,” and she continues to encourage ongoing and new members to think about joining the Club’s policy meetings. “It’s a great way to get involved and to learn about what’s going on in politics in our area,” she said.
