En el año 2017 el Departamento de Transporte de Delaware celebró sus 100 años de servicio a los residentes de Delaware y a todos lo que viajan a través del Primer Estado. El sábado 6 de enero, a las 10:30 a.m., Jennifer Cohan, Secretaria del Departamento de Transporte de Delaware hará una presentación en los Archivos Públicos de Delaware que se enfocará en los primeros 100 años de esta agencia estatal. La Asamblea General de Delaware aprobó la Ley de Autopistas de 1917 por la cual se formó un departamento centralizado de autopistas con la autoridad de construir y mantener un sistema “permanente” de autopistas que se extendiera a lo largo del estado. La Secretaria Cohan presentará la historia del departamento y cómo el sistema de transporte de Delaware ha evolucionado y se ha expandido desde el siglo pasado.
La Secretaria Cohan fue designada a esta posición en enero de 2015 para ser únicamente la tercera mujer en liderar el Departamento de Transporte de Delaware después de servir como Directora de la División de Vehículos Motorizados de Delaware desde 2007. Su trayectoria en el servicio público del estado es de más de 27 años. La Secretaria Cohan ha ejercido como Gerente de Programa/Finanzas en el Departamento de Control de Recursos Naturales y del Ambiente, manejando el Programa de Aguas Limpias (Clean Water Program), y también trabajó en la Oficina del Contralor General. Ella es profesora adjunta en la Universidad de Wilmington, donde enseña liderazgo y política pública en el programa de maestrías.
Es importante resaltar que con el inicio del año 2018, la Sala de Investigación Mabel Lloyd Ridgely estará abierta al público el primer sábado del mes de 1:00 a 4:00 pm. El nuevo horario entrará en efecto el sábado 6 de enero.

In 2017 the Delaware Department of Transportation celebrated 100 years of service to the residents of Delaware and all who travel through the First State. On Saturday, January 6, at 10:30 a.m. Jennifer Cohan, Secretary of Delaware Department of Transportation will present a program at the Delaware Public Archives focusing on the first 100 years of this state agency. The Delaware General Assembly passed the Highway Act of 1917 which formed a centralized highway department with the authority to build and maintain a “permanent” highway system extending throughout the state. Secretary Cohan will present the history of the department and how Delaware’s transportation system has evolved and expanded over the past century.
Secretary Cohan was appointed in January 2015 to be only the third woman to lead the Delaware Department of Transportation after serving as the Director of the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles since 2007. Her state public service career has spanned over 27 years. Secretary Cohan has worked in the capacity of Financial/Program Manager at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control managing the state’s Clean Water Program, and has also worked with the Delaware State Legislature within the Office of the Controller General. She is an adjunct professor at Wilmington University, teaching leadership and public policy in the Master’s program.
In addition, with the start of 2018, the Mabel Lloyd Ridgely Research Room will be open for patrons from 1:00 pm. to 4:00 on the first Saturday of each month. January 6 will the first Saturday when these hours take effect.
The program is free to the public and will last approximately one hour. No reservations are required.
