Summary:
Conducts financial interviews with customers on all inpatient and Same Day Surgery accounts. Performs the credit functions of the Medical Center. Performs collection activity on past due accounts. Has accountability for recovery of patient accounts receivable and meeting standards as prescribed by Management.
Other information:
Two years prior experience with customer service, billing, business office or credit functions required. Must have proficient computer skills. Must be outgoing enough to deal with public and confident enough to work in stressful situations. Must have good oral and written communication skills. Bilingual communication skills desirable.
Responsibilities:
Interviews, counsels and visits in patient self pay customers to establish method of payment or evaluates financial information to determine their ability to pay. Gathers and analyzes the required confidential financial documents to determine if other sources of financial assistance is feasible for the patient. Confers with representatives of Medicaid and other public assistance agencies to acquire information regarding possible coverage for current or future accounts. Establishes payment contracts on self pay accounts in accordance with Department policy. Takes necessary action to liquidate all accounts in the shortest time possible. Displays tact, discretion and judgment in establishing contracts within Department guidelines. Documents arrangements on individual files to guide Cashier at discharge. Reviews accounts receivable files and examines accounts to ascertain previous billing and collection actions, status of pending insurance coverage and delinquent payments. Contacts insurance carriers and/or customer by telephone or mail to secure payment in shortest possible time. Re-bills delinquent insurance when necessary. Records collection action taken on individual accounts including any new or subsequent payment agreements. Assigns follow-up or review dates as necessary. Maintains responsibility of account until paid in full. Reviews account for Charity Care criteria or establishes recommendations for additional assistance based on the Federal Poverty Levels. Completes thorough analysis and makes the appropriate recommendation to the patient and management as required in the Charity Care Policy and Procedures. Handles incoming telephone calls and correspondence from patients, government agencies, local financial assistance agencies and responds to personal visits from customers regarding billing, financial assistance, deceased, bankruptcy and collection matters. Reviews and analyzes patient accounts involving CHAP, Financial Assistance as requested, Nemours and Bankruptcy cases. Makes the appropriate recommendations for bad debt and/or charity write-off action based on the written policy and guidelines as the situation dictates. Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, objectives for quality assurance, audits, safety, environmental and infection control in accordance with the Beebe Medical Center Service Standard Guidelines. Assists in the care and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Alerts lead of equipment malfunction and/or calls for maintenance repairs. Maintains records and files as required.
