Dover, DE – As some roads in Delaware are still impacted from Hurricane Irene, much of the soil remains saturated, and streams remain swollen, Tropical Storm Lee is expected to deliver heavy rainfall over the next several days.
Crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) are spending today and tomorrow clearing storm drains of any obstructions, checking the conditions at flood-prone locations that normally flood, and preparing equipment.
In addition, supervisors are also scheduling front-line and support staff to work overnight or during the weekend, if conditions call for it.
According to the latest briefing from the National Weather Service, New Castle County is predicted to receive the most rain with about 3 inches predicted. The heaviest rain, about 10 inches is predicted to fall on central Pennsylvania.
However, with the wet soil, even three inches of new rain could cause numerous downed trees flooded roads and dangerous driving conditions. In addition, even a slight change in the storms track could bring heavy flooding to Delaware.
