Hispanic Student Recognition Program – HSRP

Program Description & Application Instructions

The Hispanic Student Recognition Program (HSRP) is hosted by the Latin American Community Center, Inc. (LACC). The awards ceremony will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 (location and time will be announced at a later date). We are requesting your participation and support by way of nominating a student, providing financial support, volunteering and/or attending the event.

This special event recognizes and acknowledges high achieving Hispanic Delaware students in academics, sports, school-community service, science-technology and the arts.

All nominees who attend the ceremony are presented with a commemorative medal and category winners are also recognized. Only two high school and two middle school students (female and male) will be selected as Outstanding Hispanic Student of the Year. These students must excel in all categories to receive cash prizes, trophies, and medals.

Nominations Due Friday, February 19, 2010

Nominees must be Delaware residents. Nominations are accepted from teachers, family, community organizations and members. Nominees must be of Hispanic origin as defined as those persons whose family origins are from Spain, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking countries of the Caribbean, Central and South America. All documentation must accompany applications by the closing date. This application may be copied for distribution and submitted in person or mailed to HSRP, C/O Sindy Ortiz, Latin American Community Center, 403 N. VanBuren Street, Wilmington, DE, 19805, and 655-7338; or by facsimile 655-7334.

The Selection Process.

The HSRP committee recruits volunteers from the community, agencies, and the private sector to serve on the selection committee. If you wish to volunteer, even an hour of your time, please contact us. The HSRP committee evaluates and rates each application on its merit, and submits the candidate’s documentation to the selection committee for interview. During the interview, students may present their art, perform, and/or present portfolios of their achievements. The selection of the Outstanding Male and Female Students of the Year will be done by the selection committee. All nominees attending the ceremony will be recognized and honored with a commemorative medal. All award recipients will receive a special medal and a cash prize, in addition to these prizes the male and female outstanding students of the year will receive a special plaque. The ceremony is open to the public but reservations are required.
