February 1, 2009: Georgetown — The early Saturday morning weather report of cold and sunny didn’t faze several volunteers who showed up with their vehicles and their enthusiasm to move the contents of a classroom modular at the First Steps/Primeros Pasos Early Childhood Learning Center on Savannah Road in Georgetown a few blocks to the basement of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
“This move,” explains The Reverend Earl Beshears, rector of St. Paul’s located a few blocks off The Circle at East Pine and Academy Streets, “Offers more pre-school education and quality care for more children on our waiting list. The church has two classrooms and a large kitchen. Having the children in our church is a welcome ministry for all of us.”
“With the added space, we can now accommodate children from two- to five-year-olds,” comments Anne Camasso, President of the Board of First Steps/Primeros Pasos. “Since its inception at the Savannah Road location in 2007 many parents have expressed interest in their children attending our program.”
“Our talented staff and many volunteers have contributed to the success of First Steps which is well known for its positive learning environment and as a culturally-sensitive early learning program that includes teaching both the English language and the Spanish language to all students. First Steps students are well-prepared for entry into kindergarten,” comments Trudy. Cole, Program Director. “My staff and I are grateful for the added space and expansion of the program to include more children.”
