Newark, Del. (June 11, 2018) – The Food Bank of Delaware announced today that starting this fall the organization will begin to offer warehousing and logistics training to the public through a new pilot program funded through the Delaware Department of Labor.
The 11-week training program, L.O.G.I.C. – Logistics, Operations, General Warehousing and Inventory Control, begins Monday, September 10 at the Food Bank of Delaware’s warehouse at 14 Garfield Way in Newark. Class takes place Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and includes a combination of classroom and in-warehouse activities.
Certified as a trade school by the Delaware Department of Education, L.O.G.I.C. will prepare students for careers in the warehousing/logistics industry. Students will train in the warehouse of the Food Bank of Delaware in Newark and will learn to use major equipment like end riders, lift trucks, order pickers and pallet jacks.
After successful completion of the program, students will have an opportunity to receive an OSHA-10 general industry certificate and forklift certification.
The Delaware Department of Labor projects that by 2024, there will be 930 additional jobs in warehousing and storage. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean hourly wage of positions within the industry range from $10.07 to $24.74.

What better place to receive this training than the Food Bank of Delaware. We have rack upon rack of storage space, fork lifts, end riders and pallet jacks. Receiving and distributing more than seven million pounds of food each year requires expertise in the warehousing and logistics industry. Not only do we have the industry expertise, we also have successfully operated workforce development training programs since 2002 with The Culinary School at the Food Bank of Delaware, our 14-week program preparing Delawareans for employment in the food service industry. ”
As part of curriculum development, the Food Bank of Delaware sought out the expertise of industry leaders such as Kraft, Amazon and Bayshore Transportation.

Week 2: Receiving
Week 3: Storing and Restocking
Week 4: Picking, Packing and Quality Control
Week 5: Loading and Shipping
Week 6: Inventory Control
Week 7: Introduction to Transportation
Week 8: Customer Service
Week 9: Customer Service
Weeks 10-11: Internship
