Newark, Del. (September 7, 2009) – In remembrance of the September 11th tragedy and to honor Delaware’s police officials, the Food Bank of Delaware will serve lunch to the First State’s police heroes on Friday, September 11.

As part of the national September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance, the Food Bank of Delaware’s staff will deliver meals to a designated Delaware State Police troop location in each county on Friday. On-duty police officials from the state, county and local levels are invited to pick up lunch for themselves from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

“In light of the tragic loss of Officer Chad Spicer of the Georgetown Police Department and the upcoming observance of 9/11, we thought it was appropriate for our staff to give back to the community,” says Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe. “Hundreds of volunteers assist us with fulfilling our mission of ending hunger each week; it is fitting for us to turn the tables on this day of service and help another group of organizations fulfill their mission.”

Colonel Robert M. Coupe says, “It is very humbling to be recognized by an organization like the Food Bank of Delaware. In essence, we both have the same mission… to help others. It certainly means a lot to us that the Food Bank deems our contribution to Delaware’s citizens worthy of this thoughtful gesture.”

Chief Michael Capriglione, Newport’s Chief of Police and President of Delaware’s Police Chief’s Council says, “As a member of Delaware’s law enforcement community, I can say that we are all very thankful and appreciative of this recognition by the Food Bank. September 11th serves as a yearly remembrance of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of public safety.”
