Wilmington, DE –On Friday, October 18, 2019 at 4:30 pm Governor John Carney will be attending a Future Soccer Stars (FSS) session at the Latin American Community Center (LACC). The LACC is honored to host FSS and Governor Carney.
FSS is an urban-focused nonprofit created to provide the children in Wilmington opportunities to experience and play the world sport of soccer. Its mission is to, through the sport of soccer, inspire kids to believe and invest in themselves. Its specific aim is to help combat the pay-to-play environment pervasive throughout the sport, while also providing exercise and fun in a safe environment.
For years the LACC has partnered with FSS, providing hundreds of low income kids the opportunity to learn and grow, both on and off the field. Children learn, not only the basics of soccer, but also the same lifelong lessons elite athletes would learn. FSS creates a community culture around the growing sport, helping children gain access to opportunities they may not have the resources to participate in.
Next year marks the 5- year anniversary of FSS. Over this time, this nonprofit organization has grown exponentially, implementing an annual “City on the Pitch” PlayDay event. In 2018 this event included over 750 participants. In 2020 FSS will be introducing their citywide youth soccer league. Once populated, the league will provide the ultimate access and exposure point for children in the city. For more information, please visit https://www.fssfoundation.org.
