Governor Launches Weekly TV – Video – YouTube Messages to Delawareans

First "Delaware Forward" video message focuses on how teamwork across the state saved millions on energy costs

(Dover, DE) – Governor Jack Markell at noon today launched his first weekly video message, sharing how some local governments, schools, institutions of higher education and other public entities joined the state in a “reverse auction” to drive down their energy costs and save over $13 million dollars with dramatically expanding their use of clean energy sources.

At noon every Friday, a new video message will be posted to the Governor’s website and YouTube channel and be distributed to Delaware media outlets.

Transcripts of the messages will be posted and the audio version of the Governor’s message will be available on iTunes as a podcast for distribution to personal MP3 players and home computers.

The Governor launched an audio-version of the message on radio stations around the state three weeks ago. The messages will highlight some of the great work Delawareans are doing and offer updates on state priorities such as creating jobs, enhancing education and making government more cost-effective.

“This is another opportunity to share some of the work being done by people across the state to strengthen our schools and create jobs and economic opportunity. Delawareans have been reaching out to us in so many ways with their ideas and innovations and this seemed a new way to reach back out to them, ” said Governor Markell.

“This video message allows me to reach people through traditional media and those outlets’ websites as well as social media forums such as Facebook and Twitter. All of this opens the door to more information-sharing and engagement with citizens.”

The Governor’s TV message will be taped every week in the Wilmington studios of WHYY-TV. WHYY plans to air the messages on Friday evenings.
