Governor, State Officials Urge Schools to Return to “Hybrid Instruction” on Monday

In a letter to school leaders, educators and parents today (1/5), Governor John Carney, Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) Director Dr. Karyl Rattay, and Delaware Secretary of Education Dr. Susan Bunting urged schools to return to hybrid instruction – a mix of remote and in-person learning – starting on Monday (1/11/2021).
The letter advised school administrators to prioritize younger students for in-person learning if operational challenges continue.
The three officials stated in the letter that they “do not believe there is a public health reason to close schools” and “that students learn best when they’re in school.”
Also on Tuesday, the Delaware Division of Public Health launched a new, schools-focused COVID-19 dashboard. The dashboard will track the number of contagious cases among staff and students of Delaware schools, and offer a more detailed picture of COVID-19 infection in school buildings.
