Students from Indian River and Sussex Tech high schools teamed up this Christmas season to provide gifts for a needy family in the Frankford area.

Students in Indian River’s Spanish III and Spanish IV classes and Sussex Tech’s Spanish National Honor Society spent about three weeks collecting toys, food, clothing, appliances and other items for the family. The donation drive was organized by teachers Carla Yngve and Tom Easter of Indian River and Brooke Clark of Sussex Tech.

“The troops rallied together,” Yngve said. “They really did an amazing job. They really showed a lot of compassion and concern for other people.”

A counselor at Frankford Elementary School helped identify the family and students from both schools sought donations of new and slightly-used items to brighten the family’s holiday season. The items were delivered to the family on December 16.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to experience the value of giving, especially during economic times such as these,” Yngve said.
