Holiday Gift: Centennial Plate

Order the limited edition plate for family, friends

Dover – Upgrade your ride by ordering your classic Centennial Plate for the holidays. It comes in heritage gold on a black onyx background and celebrates the very first Delaware plate, produced in 1909. These $100 plates will only be available through 2009, and already customers are purchasing them as gifts for family and friends.

Delaware is the first state to produce a commemorative license plate of this kind, and it is already a valued collectible. Order now, or anytime before Nov. 21 to have as a unique gift for the Holiday Season. Orders can be placed online at @link href=’’target=”_blank”> or at the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or call 302-744-2503 for more information. Those who place orders between Nov. 22 and Dec. 15 can request a gift certificate suitable for wrapping by calling 302-760-2080.

In the first month of sales, the DMV, a division of the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), has sold almost 1,000 Centennial Plates. The first orders have arrived so there are only a handful of vehicles statewide that display the unique new plate. Don’t wait. Upgrade your ride today, or better yet, upgrade the ride of a friend or loved one.

The Centennial License Plate may be displayed on all vehicles except motorcycles, mopeds, and IRP apportioned vehicles. Plate numbering will match the number currently assigned to the registered vehicle. All numerical plates and those with prefixes PC, RV, FT, C, CL, T, and D, as well as all vanity plates are permitted.

Plate sales started Oct. 1, 2008 and end Dec. 31, 2009. The cost is $100.

By honoring the first state-issued plates the DMV is giving the public the opportunity to own a piece of Delaware history. This offering allows the public to purchase something of value now that will increase in value over time. Proceeds from the plate sales will be used to supplement the Transportation Trust Fund and enhance DMV customer service via online services and technology enhancements.
