The Inaugural Greene Turtle Lewes 5K Walk/Run to benefit The Wellness Community-Delaware (TWC-D) is scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2009. Registration begins at 7:15 with the race starting at 8:15 am. The event will commence at the Greene Turtle Restaurant and Sports Bar located at The Villages at Five Points in Lewes. Walkers and runners will proceed along a fast, flat course within the Five Points residential neighborhoods. Tee shirts will be provided and a complimentary post race party featuring music, beer and refreshments will be held at the Greene Turtle.
As a symbolic gesture of remembrance, red tribute balloons will line the pathway along the course. Those wishing to honor a cancer survivor, remember a loved one who lost their battle with the disease or to celebrate their own survival can purchase the balloons for $10.00 each. For walkers and runners who want to participate in the 5K, a tribute balloon dedicated to the person of your choice is included with each $25.00 registration completed at www.wellnessdelaware.org or by calling TWC-D at 645-9150.
The Wellness Community also has limited T-shirt sponsorships available for the 5K. Sponsors will have their logo placed on the t-shirts, on the race websites, signage on the course, and five complimentary race entries. The Wellness Community – Delaware is dedicated to helping people with cancer and their loved ones by providing professionally led programs of emotional support, education and hope as an integral part of conventional medical treatment. At The Wellness Community, all programs are offered free of charge. Proceeds from this race will stay in Sussex County to help our neighbors who are coping with a cancer diagnosis.
