Dover, DE – Lewis D. Schiliro, Secretary of Safety and Homeland Security has announced the appointment of John A. Yeomans as Director of the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE). Director Yeomans, a retired Delaware State Police Captain, will take over the helm of the 16-person agency beginning January 3, 2010.
“DATE is an extremely important agency in our State as its mission is to protect our young people from the devastating effects of underage tobacco use and the horrible consequences of underage drinking. I am pleased that John has accepted this critical mission. His extensive law enforcement, management experience and incredible enthusiasm will prove to be critical to the daily operation of DATE,” said Sec. Schiliro.”
Director Yeomans most recently worked for Appriss, Inc. as the National Sales Director and Business Development Officer. He also served as a consultant to Compass Leadership Solutions LLC, providing training and subject matter expertise to law enforcement personnel.
During his 25-year career with the Delaware State Police, he held many positions including Troop Commander, Director of Human Resources, Director of Public Relations and Grant Management Specialist. In addition, he was Assistant Director of Internal Affairs, an investigator with the Homicide Unit and founder and team coordinator of the Critical Stress Incident Management Team. He is also an adjunct professor at Wilmington University.

Director Yeomans holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Delaware and a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course. Director Yeomans is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
