The director and founder of Flamenco Aparicio Dance Company and curator of GALA Hispanic Theatre’s celebrated annual Fuego Flamenco Festival brings his latest work: Flamenco/Flamenca to The Schwartz Center in Dover, DE.
Edwin Aparicio (Choreographer, Director, Dancer) was featured in Dance Magazine’s annual “25 Artists to Watch” list in 2009 and has been described by critics as “the most amazing dancer seen in years” with his “hellfire footwork.”
An internationally acclaimed dancer, he has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Carmela Greco, Chuscales, and SilverioHeredia, among others. Mr. Aparicio is a faculty member of the Washington School of Ballet, conducts flamenco classes throughout the country, and was nominated for the 2010 Metro DC Dance Award for Outstanding Individual Performance.
In his latest work, Aparicio continues to explore gender themes in Flamenco. “While steeped in tradition,” remarks Aparicio, “flamenco continues to evolve.
What is and is not feminine or masculine in flamenco is not always a question of inflexible cultural norms. Rather, it is a complex system of organic changes – a system of subtleties and serendipitous outcomes.”
Aparicio and his ensemble of dancers, guitarists and cantaores bring to the stage the fire and grace that has made this art one of the most mystifying and ancient celebrations of emotion and music in modern history.
Tickets: Adults: $28; Seniors (65+): $25; Military (w/ID): $25; and Students: $20.
