First State Community Action Agency was proud to sponsor a six week full-day Summer Program which combined the Delaware Prevention Network After School Program with the La Casita Homework Program for the first time ever.
The La Casita Program focused on Hispanic arts & crafts and learning more about the culture of Mexico and Guatemala. The DPN Program offered a young Entrepreneurs Program. A total of 130 children participated in the combined afternoon activities such as art projects, drama classes, physical education, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention and all day educational field trips.
Children visited Assateague Island, the Brandywine Zoo, Valley Forge, Killen’s Pond, and the Delaware State Fair.
The Summer Program was made possible thanks to the Indian River School District, the Speer Trust, Sussex County Council, the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club, the Delaware Food Bank, the Delaware Prevention Network, El Centro Cultural, the Delaware Division of the Arts, the La Casita Parents Association, the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension 4-H Club, the Rehoboth Art League and the National Park Service.
