Last week of the Legislative Session 2018

Yesterday, State Senators talked about dogs, “assault weapons”, weather, and, of course, money.

At least one bill (SB 253) hadn’t been released from committee, so rules had to be suspended for it to be worked on the Senate floor.

Senator Dave Lawson took part in decision to return Grant in Aid funding back to 2017 levels. The final bill should be presented on Saturday. (Pictured in the photo cover).

Also legislature passes budget so the General Assembly approves $4.27B spending plan.

Some highlights of this year’s budget:

– pay raises for state employees
– more case workers to investigate cases of child abuse and neglect
– restoration of a prescription assistance program for the disabled and low-income seniors
