Market Street Mall building fire in Wilmington

Today, Wilmington firefighters on the A-Platoon were dispatched to 400 Block of N. Market Street for a report of smoke puffing from a four story building. Upon arriving, fire department units found smoke issuing from the fourth floor window area of a building under renovation.

The arriving fire suppression companies quickly began an aggressive attack on the fire. Battalion Chief Edward Hojnicki arrived and ordered an additional ladder company to prevent lateral spread of the fire.

The efforts of the Suppression companies quickly confined the fire to the front forth floor area preventing further fire spread to the building
No injuries were reported, Workers were seen evacuating the building from ladders before firefighters arrived.

The fire was placed under control @ 12:15 hours.

The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire. The fire investigation is ongoing and currently listed as UNDER INVESTIGATION.

Thirty-eight fire and EMS personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: Skyboom 2, Squad Engine 3 , Squrt 4, Engine 5, Engine 6, Ladder Tower 2, Ladder 1, Battalion 1, Battalion 5, Battalion 10, Deputy 2, FM18, Ambulance PA2, NCC EMS & Wilmington License & Inspection.
