En el Mes Nacional de la Historia de la Mujer (National Women’s History Month), queremos homenajear a una heroína de nuestra comunidad que, como tantas otras, hace historia día a día. Representa a esas mujeres que, a pesar de la adversidad, continúan adelante peleando. Nos referimos a Lulú Méndez.
Originaria de Guerrero (México) y criada en el DF, estudió Artes Plásticas. Le gustaba la decoración y tuvo la oportunidad de desarrollar su talento en su México natal.
Ya en Estados Unidos se abrió camino realizando mil y un trabajos, y ganando algún dinero extra trabajando como mesera los fines de semana en fiestas. Consiguió entre otros su Certificado Profesional para Manipulación de Alimentos y su espíritu emprendedor le llevó a iniciar su propio negocio “Servicios Amaya LLC, Decoración y Mesería”, ofreciendo servicios integrales para eventos.
Con la apertura el 13 de mayo de 2017 de Amaya Boutique, y a finales del pasado año de Salón Ruby en Wilmington, sus sueños se hacían realidad, mientras continuaba sus estudios de gestión empresarial en los que se graduó.
Encontró su motivación en sus dos hijos adolescentes, en su mamá ya fallecida, María, en el cariño y apoyo de “su” Chava y en el resto de su familia y amigos.
Cuando todo parecía ir de maravilla su salud fue puesta a prueba. Pero esta luchadora para la que “uno mismo se pone sus metas y hasta dónde quiere llegar” no se iba a rendir y plantó cara a un diagnóstico médico adverso porque “hay que luchar siempre por lo que queremos y más si lo hacemos con el corazón”.
Y Lulú ha continuado velando por los suyos, siguiendo sus tratamientos médicos y al frente de su negocio, haciendo que lo difícil parezca fácil. Porque una hija de Guerrero no se rinde y Lulú saldrá victoriosa de ésta y de cuantas empresas se proponga.
Nuestro homenaje para ella en el “Mes dedicado a la historia de las mujeres”. Ella está creando historia entre las hispanas de Delaware, al igual que otras heroínas anónimas y supervivientes.

In the National Women’s History Month, we want to honor a heroine of our community who, like so many others, makes history every day. It represents those women who, in spite of the adversity, continue fighting forward. We are referring to Lulú Méndez. Originally from Guerrero (Mexico) and raised in Mexico City, she studied Plastic Arts. She liked the decoration and had the opportunity to develop her talent in her native Mexico.
In the United States, she made her way through a thousand and one jobs, and earned some extra money working as a waitress on weekends at parties. Among others, she obtained her Professional Certificate for Food Handling and her entrepreneurial spirit led her to start her own business “Servicios Amaya LLC, Decoración y Mesería”, offering integral services for events.
With the opening on May 13, 2017 of Amaya Boutique, and at the end of last year Ruby Hall in Wilmington, her dreams came true, while continuing her studies in business management in which she graduated.
She found her motivation in her two teenage children, in her deceased mother, Maria, in the love and support of “her” Chava (partner) and in the rest of her family and friends.
When everything seemed to go wonderfully her health was put to the test. But this fighter for whom “you set your goals and how far you want to go” was not going to give up and faced an adverse medical diagnosis because “we always have to fight for what we want and more if we do it with our heart “.
And Lulú has continued to watch over her own, following her medical treatments and leading her business, making the difficult seem easy. Because a daughter of Guerrero does not surrender and Lulu will be victorious of this one and of how many companies she proposes.
This is our tribute to her in the “Month dedicated to the history of women”. She is creating history among the Delaware Hispanics, as are other anonymous and surviving heroines.
