Update: New Castle County Department of Community Services will be accepting requests for applications to their Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting list on January 13 and 14, 2009.
Requests for applications should be made by calling 1-800-766-8811. For the hearing impaired only a TTY line is available at 302-395-5598. Calls will be taken between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January13 and Wednesday, January 14.
The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance vouchers to eligible families. The maximum income guidelines for eligibility are as follows:
• Family Size: 1 Person $26,000
• Family Size: 2 Persons $29,700
• Family Size: 3 Persons $33,450
• Family Size: 4 Persons $37,150
• Family Size: 5 Persons $40,100
• Family Size: 6 Persons $43,100
• Family Size: 7 Persons $46,050
• Family Size: 8 Persons $49,050
Individuals who are eligible and placed on the list may receive one or more of the following preferences as a result of their, “being a victim of domestic violence”, “residency”, “living in substandard housing”, “families with a rent burden”.
The number of available vouchers is limited. Due to the small number of vouchers that will become available for utilization in the next two to three years, New Castle County will only accept the first 1500 families making such a request. The request for applications will be accepted by telephone only. Only one family request will be accepted per phone call. Once New Castle County has received 1500 requests for applications the waiting list request for applications process will be closed.
If you receive a busy signal please keep trying as the number of phone calls is expected to be high. Courtesy phones will be available for use at the following New Castle County Public Libraries: Bear, Brandywine Hundred, Elsmere, Hockessin, Newark and Woodlawn.
