With the sleet, ice and snow likely arriving in Delaware sometime tonight, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation are getting prepared.
Since the event will start as rain, crews have not pre-treated any road surfaces, since the rain would wash away most of the salt.
In New Castle County, all crews are staying at work, preparing the equipment so they can react quickly when the precipitation begins to fall.
In Kent County, all of the crews will report to work at 8:00 p.m. tonight.
In Sussex County, supervisors will be working overnight, monitoring the roads. If conditions change, crews are prepared to report to work.
“There will be hundreds of DelDOT people working all night long tonight to make sure the morning commute is as safe as possible,” said Secretary Carolann Wicks. “However, motorists should drive with caution, and be alert for black ice and other slippery spots.”
