Wilmington, DE – The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that the Interstate Bridge Maintenance project will begin on Wednesday, June 15.

I-495 southbound on Bridge 1-702 between Exit 6/Naamans Road and Exit 5/Philadelphia Pike will be CLOSED at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 for the placement of the barrier wall. Detour signage will be posted to alert motorists. At 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, a single lane of traffic will be open to motorists, while the right lane will remain closed for the next several months. Once the barrier wall is set, the contractor will be working daytime behind the barrier wall.

On Thursday, June 16, the right lane of I-95 northbound and southbound will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the placement of a moveable barrier wall system that will be underneath the bridge. This closure will start just south of Exit 11/Naamans Road to north of the exit. After placement, the right shoulder will remain closed 24/7.

The I-495 & I-95 interstate bridge maintenance project involves the rehabilitation of two interstate bridges. This work includes: replacing expansion joints, joint seals, compression seals and pourable seals; mill and overlay deck; cleaning and greasing bearings; patching and replacing approach slab; patch concrete spalls and concrete cracks; and painting the steel beams.

The contractor for this project is Mumford & Miller Concrete, Inc. This $3,911,092 project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The anticipated completion of the work will be mid-September 2012.
