March 11, 2009 - The Georgetown Police Department is investigating an incident that has left a Georgetown resident seriously injured. Officers were dispatched to the area of North Railroad Ave. for what appears to be a botched robbery. The victim, Merito Galvez-Roblero, was walking to his residence at around 9:40 P.M., when he was confronted by a lone assailant who, without warning, stabbed him in the chest with a knife. The attacker then demanded money from the gravely injured victim and punched him several times, before a bystander saw the altercation and yelled for help. Nearby citizens responded to the cries and chased the suspect for two blocks, before losing sight of him in the darkness. The victim was transported to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, where he underwent emergency surgery and is now in stable condition. The suspect, described by witnesses as a black male, approximately 15 to 25 years of age, 5’7” to 5’10” tall with a thin build, was wearing black jeans and jacket, white sneakers and had a thin moustache. Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the assailant. If you have any information, please call Lt. Grose or D/Sgt. Barlow of the Georgetown Police Criminal Investigations Division at 302-856-6613. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-TIP-3333.
