The University of Delaware’s festive Coast Day returns for the 38th year on Sunday, Oct. 5. The theme this year is “Weather & Climate: On Our Radar.” Throughout the event, UD scientists, staff and students will highlight some of the ways they observe and study the effects of climate and weather in Delaware and around the world.
Each year, Coast Day introduces thousands of people to the wonders of the sea, the importance of Delaware’s marine and coastal resources, and steps being taken to ensure that those resources remain available for future generations to enjoy. Coast Day attendees can interact with researchers, tour ships, try hands-on activities, and attend presentations on a range of topics.
Family-friendly activities will include an event-wide treasure hunt for answers to questions about the environment and Coast Day exhibits. Children can meet sea-dwelling animals such as horseshoe crabs and dogfish sharks at the critter touch tanks. The event also features live music, vendor displays, and seafood favorites showcased by local chefs at the Crab Cake Cook-Off and the Seafood Chowder Challenge.
Coast Day is sponsored by UD’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and the Delaware Sea Grant College Program.
