Original founder visits Sussex Academy

Georgetown, DE. On his recent visit from Chile, one of Sussex Academy of Arts and Science founders, Gonzalo Martinez, visited Sussex Academy. His last visit was in 2014 when the building/facilities were still under construction.

Mr. Martinez became involved in Sussex Academy of Arts and Sciences one year prior to its opening. His goal was to encourage attendance from the Hispanic community. He worked with local Hispanic families and when the school opened in 2000, the student population was 2.6% Hispanic population.

Sussex Academy students, Jaide Morales-Alvarado, Sherllyn Morales-Alvarado and Karen Yoc-Gonzalez joined Mr. Martinez on his tour. He was impressed and happy to see the completed construction of the cafetorium, library, middle school wing and the pool. “The original founders of Sussex Academy of Arts and Sciences always dreamed of including a high school,”said Mr. Martinez , I am so happy to see that dream come true.”
